How to apply

Course fees

Course fees

Taking a course has never been better value.  Lots of the courses are free and others cost very little.  Learners who are in receipt of certain means tested benefits may not have to pay tuition and there are initiatives to help you pay for courses and any materials you may need.

Full time

There are no tuition related fees for FE full time courses at Coleg Gwent.  This applies to UK and EU learners regardless of age.  There will be an administration fee of £10 charged for all full time FE learners.

Part time

Most of our part time courses have support from funds from the Welsh Government.  Tuition fees for these part time courses are based on the number of hours.  This applies to UK and EU learners on part time courses in excess of 30 weeks.  There is a basic rate per year of £52 for each hour you study in a week.  For example, if you are studying a course for nine hours a week, such as the National Certificate in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, the course fee for the year is £468 (9 x £52).

For shorter courses tuition fees are based on a rate of £1.56 per hour.

There are no tuition fees for FE funded part time courses for UK and EU learners who have finished their compulsory education and are under 19 on 1 September 2011. Any registration or exam fees would still need to be paid.

Higher Education (HE)

HE full time courses are £3,375 per annum. Learners can apply for a tuition fee loan (repayable) or an Assembly Learning Grant – HE (non-repayable but means tested) to help pay this fee. HE part time course costs range from £550 to £1,290.  Some courses are available in a modular format with a cost determined for each 20 credit module. All applications for financial help can be made to either your LEA or Student Finance Wales.

Basic Skills and ESOL Learners

Basic Skills and ESOL courses are free to home learners at Entry Level 1, 2 & 3 and Level 1 & 2.  However, this does not apply to learners entering the UK on a learner visa, temporary visitors and workers on short-term visas.
ESOL and EFL fees where applicable will be £2.42 per hour for EU learners and £7.62 per hour for overseas learners.

Overseas learners

Full time: Overseas learners studying a full time FE course are charged £4,962 per year.  HE courses will be charged at £8,300.

Part time: For part time overseas learners there is a charge of £10.00 per course hour.   For example, an overseas learner on an A Level course for 3 hours per week for 34 weeks will pay £1020.00 (3 x £10.00 x 34).

Other costs

Learners on some specialist courses may have to buy certain items of equipment, such as specialist clothing.  Details will be given at the time of enrolment.

Exam and registration fees

Exam Fees and Registration Fees for FE full time UK and EU learners are paid by the College.  Exam Fees and Registration Fees for all FE part time UK and EU learners and all overseas learners are paid by the learner, regardless of age or whether they have to pay tuition fees.
