Literacy and numeracy (also known as Basic Skills) are not only skills in their own right, but also form the basis for a lot of other learning you’ll do on your course, so we want to make sure you can fulfil your potential by giving you any support you may need in mastering these skills.

This support is offered:

In class: An additional member of staff comes into your Essential Skills session to provide support for learners in the group
One to one: A time is allocated for you to meet with a support worker to help you with your basic skills
Workshops: Some campuses have a Support for Learning workshop. Your tutor may recommend that you attend the workshop at a specific time to access support, or you may choose to drop in yourself to brush up on your literacy and numeracy skills
